Construction
A complete box mattress for your DIY setup
The box mattress features a sprung mattress built into a box base, finished with a made-to-measure cover that wraps around both. Choose medium or firm comfort when ordering, plus no legs, 10 cm wooden legs or height-adjustable legs. If your family's needs change, the box mattress can be removed from the system.
Firmness
Choose medium or firm comfort
Choose between medium and firm comfort when you order. The mattress has the same firmness throughout and cannot be flipped to change the feel. It is quiet and provides progressive support with effective motion isolation, preventing movement from travelling unnecessarily across the sleeping surface.
Levelling
Match the box mattress to the height of your bed
The optional height-adjustable legs cover a range of 15 to 42 cm across 14 increments, spanning three different leg types. This allows the box mattress to sit flush with box mattresses and continental beds of different heights. The legs have standard M8 threads, which fit the vast majority of bed types. Mounting flanges are included for beds without M8 threads.

The box mattress is made to your chosen width and length, with 13 widths available from 80 to 225 cm and a choice of 200 or 210 cm in length. The box mattress itself is 38 cm high without legs, while the height-adjustable legs bring the total height to between 40 and 80 cm.

Frequently asked questions about FAMBED® box mattress for DIY kit
How long will it take for our box mattress to arrive?
Your box mattress is made to order in your chosen dimensions. Production currently takes around 4 weeks, followed by approximately one week for delivery, depending on where you live. You should therefore allow around 5 weeks from placing your order to delivery. At checkout, you'll receive a more precise estimate based on your address. We'll email you the final delivery date after your purchase, once it has been coordinated with our production team. Production begins as soon as you confirm your order in the email we send after your purchase. Our delivery team will call you to arrange a date, and your box mattress will be delivered to the kerbside.
Is the mattress soft or firm?
You choose the firmness when ordering: medium or firm. The mattress has the same firmness throughout and cannot be flipped. If you'd prefer a mattress that can be flipped between two firmness levels, take a look at the spring mattress designed for the family bed. View the reversible spring mattress
Will the box mattress fit our existing bed?
That's exactly what the height-adjustable legs are designed for. Using three different leg types, they adjust from 15 to 42 cm across 14 height settings, allowing the box mattress to sit level with a box mattress or continental-style bed of a different height. The legs have standard M8 threads, which fit most bed types, and flanges are included for fitting them to beds without M8 threads.
Can the box mattress be removed again?
Yes. You can remove the box mattress from the system at any time, for example when a child moves into their own room. Its modular design also makes it easy to transport and carry into your home, even through narrow stairwells. Once it is positioned alongside your existing bed, you won't feel the joins.
Can we cancel our box mattress purchase?
No. The box mattress is made to order in your chosen dimensions, so the standard right to cancel no longer applies once production has begun. Production only begins after you confirm your order in the email we send following your purchase. If you need to make any changes or cancel your order, you can still do so before confirming it. If the item you receive is faulty, your statutory right to make a claim applies for 24 months.
